Q. Can you tell us a bit about your background before joining Eurosafe?
I spent 26 years in the fire service, including more than two decades at Manchester Airport, where I held a variety of leadership roles, progressing from Crew Manager to Watch Manager and eventually Station Manager. Alongside managing emergency response teams, I was responsible for ensuring compliance with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations, giving me a thorough understanding of safety management and operational standards in high-risk environments.
Q. How did your experience shape your approach to delivering training?
My career in the fire service provided a strong foundation in practical risk management and emergency response, but it also sparked a real passion for training and developing others. Throughout my career I was heavily involved in delivering training programmes, and that’s something I’ve continued at Eurosafe.
I firmly believe the most effective training is built around real-life experience. My aim is always to deliver sessions that are practical, engaging and relevant, helping delegates understand not just what they need to do, but why it matters in their day-to-day roles.
Q. What brought you to Eurosafe and what do you do here?
I joined the Eurosafe Training team in early 2022, attracted by the company’s strong reputation for safety and its commitment to delivering high-quality training. As a specialist instructor, I travel across the UK delivering training to organisations in a wide range of industries.
The variety is one of the things I enjoy most—every site, every business and every group of delegates presents a different challenge, meaning no two days are ever the same.
Role at Eurosafe
Q. What kind of courses do you typically deliver?
I deliver a broad range of health and safety training courses, including:
- Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
- Permits to Work
- Manual Handling
- Confined Space Entry
- Working at Height
Every course is designed to combine current legislation and industry best practice with practical exercises that delegates can apply immediately in their own workplace.
Q. You’re also involved in quality assurance, right?
Yes. Alongside delivering training, I also act as Eurosafe’s Internal Quality Assurer (IQA). Working closely with awarding bodies such as City & Guilds and Energy & Utility Skills, I help ensure our training programmes remain consistent, compliant and delivered to the highest possible standard.
Maintaining quality is essential because our delegates rely on the knowledge and skills they gain from our courses to keep themselves and others safe every day.
Q. What do you enjoy most about your role?
Without question, it’s the variety of people I get to work with.
Whether I’m training construction teams, utility engineers, technicians or facilities professionals, it’s incredibly rewarding to see delegates develop new skills and leave with greater confidence. Knowing that the training we deliver genuinely improves safety in the workplace is what motivates me every day.
Q. Finally, do you have any advice for delegates attending one of your courses?
Come with an open mind and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Training works best when it’s a conversation rather than a lecture, so the more you get involved, the more you’ll take away.
Most importantly, be prepared to take part. My courses are practical, interactive and designed around realistic workplace scenarios, giving delegates the opportunity to build confidence in a safe learning environment before applying those skills on site.
